As we prepare ourselves for winter, we should be reflecting on the past and making good decisions for our future success, despite the challenges we still face due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other challenges, of course, are those related to the hurricanes and tropical storms affecting people in the southeastern part of our country, and horrendous fires people out west are experiencing. That first Labor Day was on a Tuesday and it was celebrated with a picnic, concert, and speeches. Ten thousand workers marched in a parade from City Hall to Union Square. (America's Story, 2020)
Labor Day was moved by Congress to the first Monday in September in 1894. Labor Day in 2020 will likely be separated somewhat differently. Oh, sure, there will be picnics, concerts, and parades, but the majority of participants will be wearing face masks and social distancing in order to curb the spread of the Corona virus. Of all the American workers being celebrated, it is important this year to remember those on the front lines: the doctors, nurses, and other health care professionals putting themselves out there, the fire fighters and police officers, the bus drivers, the grocery store clerks, and all the other essential workers out there helping the rest of us stay safe. But we must not forget ourselves during this time. There have been many reports of people having difficulty processing the quarantine, the safety regulations, and the whole idea of not working when we want to be working. There are some things we all can do to build our own self-esteem and confidence during this very challenging time. In the third book in my Uniqueness of You Trilogy: Self Esteem and Your Unique Style of Fit, I outline two techniques: The Mirror Technique and The Love Affirmation Technique. The Mirror Technique increases the mental vibrations by which the force and meaning of your words will quickly penetrate to your subconscious mind.
