Finding your unique style of fit isn’t a quick fix to lose weight but is a process of changing your thinking and evolving from bad habits to new ones. Elite athletes know to get themselves in an optimum state before going on the court or field, and how to sustain it. Masterful actors, speakers, and storytellers do as well. Getting in this optimum state is mental, emotional, and physical. One of the things I keep seeing during the Shelter-at-Home time of COVID-19 is people are gaining weight. There are jokes about weight gain because people are not as active as they were before being confined to their homes. However, weight loss (and weight gain) is a Mindset. Successful people regulate their emotional state, create and sustain interest and commitment, and remain flexible. What you need to do is create a new belief. Our beliefs determine what we will or won’t do. Our behavior is regulated by our beliefs. Belief can be inscribed by affirmation or repeated instructions to the unconscious or subconscious mind. Repetition of affirmations to your unconscious mind is a powerful method of voluntary development of belief. Any thought that is repeatedly passed on to the unconscious mind is finally accepted. This is as true for wealth accumulation as it is for other consistent repetitions such as crime. As mentioned above, regulation of your emotional state – or reducing stress – is a way to keep your body healthy during this challenging time. Yes, it is a very stressful time, but making a concentrated effort to reduce stress will ultimately help you maintain a healthy weight. Aerobic activity is a good way to reduce stress. Try some moderate aerobic activity every day. The pools and gyms are closed, but you can walk around your neighborhood (maintaining social distancing of course) dance in your living room or back yard with your spouse or children, work in your garden, or go for a bike ride. This type of activity will reduce your stress levels and you won’t be as tempted to sit on the couch and eat those chips and cookies. The whole idea here is to move more and sit less. According to the American Heart Association, there are some other benefits to creating a more active mindset:

As we start slowly moving back to what is going to be our “New Normal” after COVID -19, we find ourselves re-evaluating everything. It is going to be a long time before things get back to the way they were, if they ever do. We may be looking at a “New World Order” (Originally the main purpose of the New World Order was a rebellion against unfair taxation by the British monarchy.) After successfully establishing its independence, the New World Order has had many different purposes, and now, with the pandemic moving towards resolution of some sort, a new purpose for the phrase is becoming part of the national dialogue. Our lives are the expression of the programs that have been instilled in us since birth. The good, bad, and the ugly are all captured like a tape recorder from the subconscious region of the mind. The subconscious is incapable of independent actions but works through the power of suggestion. Our mental personality is also composed of the conscious mind, which is our wishes and desires. (Pullman, 2019) It is important in this time to look at how we thought about things before the pandemic, and how we will react to our futures. We can change our emotional response to situations rather than expect everything to be as it was. We do not actually know what this new normal will look like, but as states slowly open up access to businesses, we can see many changes are already in place. Face masks and social distancing are among the most obvious changes, but how long will that last? We need to start with a paradigm shift in our thinking by using affirmations and changing the habits embedded within the subconscious mind. Following our hearts will help as we emerge from our homes and start interacting with others in ways that may seem, at first, foreign to us. Anything we do by following our heart has to be different because we all are unique, and anything coming from us must be unique. It is time for us to take control of our own knowledge, research, and lifestyle.
